I am so glad you felt drawn to this page.

Hi, I am Brynn….

In my work, I support people in understanding patterns of survival, attachment, and connection. Together, we explore what has served you, what may no longer fit, and what you want for yourself moving forward. Many of us experience moments where we feel in a bind or caught in something we can’t quite name - without the words or sense of safety to fully notice or feel into it.

I offer a space where you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. A space to slow down, to be curious, and to build the capacity to explore your inner world with compassion. This includes noticing the relationship between your mind and body - honouring both the parts that feel heavy and the parts that hold comfort, pleasure, and courage. Often, it’s these places that make it possible to reach for support.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt connected to my mind. Over time, I’ve come to understand that there is so much more depth to feeling than I once knew. My own experiences of learning and receiving support have shaped how I show up in this work.

I completed my Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University in June 2017. Since then, I’ve continued to deepen my training in Somatic Experiencing (SE), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Life can bring moments of change that shift how we see ourselves and how we move through the world. For me, one of those most recent moments for me has been becoming a mother. There are so many transitions in life that hold both joy and grief, and I’m here to support you in making space for all of it - whether that’s celebrating, grieving, or simply allowing yourself to feel what’s true.

There are also times when everything can feel like too much to carry alone. Reaching out for support isn’t always easy - especially if your experiences of trust or reaching out have included hurt, loneliness, or feeling let down.

I support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, shame, and more. It’s truly an honour to sit with people in the depth of their experience, and even considering reaching out is a meaningful step. If something here resonates, we can connect and begin to explore what feels safe, supportive, and right for you.

My Approach

In sessions, I center the body to gently support a return to embodiment, building awareness of sensation and nervous system states to understand the patterns shaped by lived experience. I hold the belief that the body is naturally oriented toward healing, though this is often interrupted through overwhelm, loss, or chronic stress.

The approaches I have received training in and use in the therapeutic setting include:

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a compassionate, non-pathologizing approach that views the psyche as made up of different “parts,” each carrying its own role, beliefs, and protective strategies. By cultivating curiosity and understanding toward these parts, access to Self energy -- naturally expands, allowing old patterns to soften and new ways of relating to emerge.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based approach that helps process traumatic or distressing experiences. Through guided attention to memories, thoughts, emotions, or body sensations alongside bilateral stimulation, EMDR supports the brain and body in reorganizing experiences so they feel more resolved and less intrusive.

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Somatic Experiencing is a bottom up approach to healing trauma that gently supports the nervous system’s natural capacity for regulation and repair.  Somatic Experiencing emphasizes somatic awareness and sensation - listening to what the body is saying to help restore resilience and regulation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a top-down approach that explores the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to identify patterns that contribute to distress. It provides practical strategies for change and can be integrated with other approaches to build insight, skills, and flexibility in how you respond to challenges.

Education & Experience

Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University

Bachelor of Arts, Honors Specialization Psychology at Western University

Alongside my private practice, I continue to support individuals and their families as they navigate recovery and adjustment following motor vehicle accidents. This work has included supporting those who have experienced traumatic brain injuries, significant physical injuries, and chronic pain.

Earlier in my career, I worked in crisis mental health, providing assessments and brief intervention to individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges.

Before entering the field of social work, I worked as a counsellor and institutional worker, supporting individuals as they transitioned from correctional settings back into the community.

What To Expect

In sessions we work in the PRESENT moment, supporting you to notice old patterns as they show up now, rather than reliving the past. Our work may include exploring the impacts of stress and trauma, and how these show up in your nervous system, emotions, thoughts, and relationships.

Over time, you can expect to:

  • better understand anxious, critical, or overwhelming thoughts

  • build capacity to stay with and regulate difficult emotions

  • notice and shift into increased body awareness

  • respond more intentionally in relationships, rather than reacting from old patterns

  • develop clearer access to needs, boundaries, and authentic self-expression

The pace is guided by you, with attention to safety, steadiness, and what feels workable in each session.

The name, Heart & Horizon Counselling was chosen intentionally, and it reflects the way I understand the therapeutic process and what it can offer.

Heart is the core of my practice - where therapy is rooted in relationship, presence, and genuine care. It reflects the belief that healing happens through connection: both within ourselves and in the spaces we share with others. It’s where the personal and professional meet, and where safety, warmth, and attunement guide the work.

Horizon speaks to possibility. Not a single direction or fixed destination, but something open, evolving, and expansive. It holds space for both light and dark - for the full range of human experience - and honours that growth isn’t linear. The horizon is always shifting, inviting curiosity, movement, and new ways of being.

Together, Heart & Horizon Counselling reflects a practice grounded in connection while remaining open to the depth, complexity, and unfolding nature of each person’s path. This is essence of what to expect when you access support here at Heart & Horizon Counselling.
